Strange Faith brings together the work of Tasmanian artists Michael Muruste and David Hawley, two painters whose practices explore abstraction as a means of navigating the complexities of contemporary life. Through layered surfaces, dynamic forms and evocative use of colour, both artists create works that invite contemplation rather than certainty, encouraging viewers to find their own meanings within shifting visual landscapes.
While Muruste's intuitive compositions balance organic and geometric elements, Hawley's paintings investigate movement, perception and transformation through intricate patterns and rhythms. Together, their works reveal abstraction not as an escape from reality, but as a powerful way of engaging with it—finding beauty, mystery and connection in the spaces between what is known and what remains unresolved.
