stARTs North West
stARTs North West, formerly known as Burnie Arts Council Inc (BAC), is the original branch of Tasmanian Regional Arts and has been a pioneer in promoting and fostering arts and culture across the region for more than 70 years.
Dedicated to elevating Burnie’s profile as a vibrant arts hub, stARTs North West brings together local arts organisations, advocates for arts development, and leads impactful community projects that celebrate creativity and connection.
A highlight of their work is the biennial Paper on Skin competition, an acclaimed event that showcases innovative designs and celebrates paper as a unique medium for artistic expression. This competition provides a platform for artists to push creative boundaries and explore the intersection of material, design, and storytelling.
Through decades of commitment, stARTs North West has made lasting contributions to the local creative community—nurturing emerging artists, supporting arts education, and enriching Burnie’s cultural life. Their work continues to shape a dynamic and inclusive arts landscape across North West Tasmania.
Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the arts—not just practicing artists. Whether you’re a local resident, part of a community group, or simply passionate about creativity, you’re warmly invited to join and take part in Burnie’s evolving arts story.
Monthly meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 3:45pm at the Burnie Arts and Function Centre (meeting point: Box Office). These gatherings offer an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and contribute to ongoing initiatives and events.
Together, the members of stARTs North West continue to champion the arts—celebrating the power of creativity to bring people together and strengthen community life.
