Burnie Regional Art Gallery Media Release

The friends of the Burnie Regional Art Gallery promises one of the most entertaining events ever held in the Gallery, with the BRAG BOYS, Sunday 8 August 2.30pm, as a highlight of the Friends of the Burnie Regional Art Gallery AGM, and to raise much-needed funds.

”The idea came about quite naturally”, said Gallery Director Greg Leong. “from a light-hearted discussion over a cuppa about my operatic non career, blossomed the idea of a musical fund raiser.”

“Soon the project gathered momentum with more musical talent stepping forward to join the BRAG BOYS in what promises to be an exciting fundraiser.”

“The Burnie arts society has always recognised its talented supporters”, continued Mr Leong. “Established jazz pianist Viktor Zappner has enjoyed a long association with the local art scene.”

“Talented musician and vocalist Andy Farrell has performed at the Gallery many times, and local musical identity and Friend Hugh Hiscutt has been a long time supporter.”

“Wayne Hayes, stalwart of the Burnie musical society, and Rodney Greene, Director of Community and Economic Development for the Burnie Council, were both keen to flex their tenor muscles and join in on the occasion.”

‘What is most exciting is the opportunity to introduce fresh talent to the society. Well known as the Gallery’s exhibitions co-ordinator, we will see Randolph Wylie in a completely different light as he strums his way through several well-known numbers.”

“Randolph’s son Kane will also appear on percussion.”

“Lastly, the newest member of the BRAG team; professional graphic designer and digital artist Michael Cannon will unveil his vocal and guitar abilities with a number of established songs from the ‘60’s to the ‘90’s plus a sneak-peek into his song-writing abilities.”

The Program will be segmented into brackets, including jazz, light classics, Gilbert & Sullivan and retro folk rock.

Entry: Donations of $10 which includes the first drink (in exchange for your entry ticket). Cash bar at interval.
