Burnie Regional Art Gallery Media Release

The exhibition Through Botanical Eyes by the Northwest Botanical Artists will be opened by Gallery Director Greg Leong this Friday 30 July at 3.30pm at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery.

This intriguing study of botany, nomenclature and even entomology assists in providing an accurate record of Tasmanian and Australian endemic flora and fauna, through painstaking and beautifully-created artworks.

“Some among our group are particularly concerned about the loss of habitat of many Tasmanian and Australian endemic species,” said Facilitator Pat Bienefelt.

The members, continues Mrs Bienefelt. ‘… are keen to provide an accurate record of those they come across, for present and future Tasmanians.”

The represented Artists are: Josephene Badcock, Brenda Haas, Vicki Boxshall, Kathleen Ritson, Jane Templer, Yvonne Gaffney, Janene Walker, Pat Bienefelt, Philippa Johnstone and Stephen Wilson.

Through Botanical Eyes will open in conjunction with two other exhibitions: Littoral, an exhibition inspired by the works of accomplished artist Charles-Alexandre Lesueur, and Garden of Forking Paths–a d/Lux MediaArts touring exhibition.

Exhibition dates: Saturday 31 July – Sunday 12 September 2010.
