Coastal dancers to feature in Tasdance presentation
Friday, 9 April 2010
Coastal dancers will reveal the fruits of their labour through a presentation at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre on Saturday April 17.
Under the guidance of Tasdance, more than 20 Coastal dancers took part in a series of contemporary dance and movement workshops in February this year.
Burnie Arts and Function Centre Director Greg Leong said the dance presentation would showcase performers of all ages.
Mr Leong said Coastal vocal ensemble Segway would perform as a curtain raiser to the presentation, under the direction of musical director Jodie Murphy.
“The presentation has been a wonderful opportunity for those interested in dance to meet, learn and work together with likeminded people of different ages and backgrounds,” Mr Leong said.
“Tasdance teachers and choreographers Sarah Fiddaman and Malcolm McMillan inspired participants with their passion and expertise for dance.
“The participants were all engaged in exploring movement and expression through dance.”
A visual arts component of the presentation will include local artists Lisa Garland, Suzanne Hennessy and Mr Leong.
Mr Leong said their work would feature digitised images of workshop participants and sketches, which would all be part of the presentation on the night.
The one-hour dance presentation will be held at 6pm on Saturday April 17 in the Town Hall. All tickets include supper afterwards in the Burnie Regional Art Gallery. Bookings are essential and can be made by calling Burnie Arts on 6431 4114.
