Greg Leong, Director of Burnie Regional Art Gallery, will be opening the exhibition Returning at the Gallery on Friday 16 April at 6.30 pm.
Returning features work by eight textile artists all with a connection to Tasmania. Their works reflect on the fact that they have at some stage been drawn away from Tasmania but have returned here and so give us their references to “other places”.
”This exhibition will give everyone a clear look of how broad the field of contemporary textile can be” said Greg Leong then added, “As a textile artist myself I must say that the works are of the highest quality and Tasmania is lucky to have attracted such skilled artists.”
Returning includes works by the following artists: Irene Briant, Julie Gough, Rosemary O’Rourke, Tara Badcock, Kathy Deprez, Petra Meer, Sara Lindsay and Elena Gallegos.
Returning was initiated by Clarence City Council and curated by Tasmanian fibre and textile artist, Gwen Egg.
Gwen Egg and Artist Tara Badcock will be giving a floor talk in the Gallery at 2pm Saturday 17 April.
Returning will open in conjunction with two more exhibitions by local artists: West of Burnie by Jan Suter and Digitized by Michael Cannon.
Exhibition dates: Saturday 17 April – Sunday 30 May 2010.
All welcome. Admission free
