Story of Swan Lake on stage in Burnie

Tuesday, 25 October 2011

A classic ballet performance of Swan Lake is set to grace the stage at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre for three performances this weekend.

Director of the BAFC Mr Greg Leong said, “We are so delighted that the Tasmanian Ballet Company has made time available in their touring schedule to visit Burnie, so that the North-West Coast can enjoy a professional ballet performance.”

Last year, the Tasmanian Ballet Company performed two shows of the Nut Cracker to full houses.

“We had sold out days before. This year there are three performances available including a matinee. We hope to have the same support again this year from the community.”

Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake premiered in the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in 1877. This ballet of love and loss tells the story of Odette, the beautiful princess, who has been turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer and how she is nearly saved by the love of Prince Siegfried.

“Swan Lake is one of the most loved ballets in the whole world and to be performed professionally in Burnie just shows what a thriving arts culture we have here,” Mr Leong said.

Performances:

Friday 28 and Saturday 29 at 7:30pm

Matinee at 2:30pm on Saturday 29
