Ten Days on the Island in Burnie

Burnie Arts and Function Centre is a major venue hub for the 2017 Ten Days On The Island Festival and will showcase a variety of performances from around Tasmania and around the world.
On Sunday 12 March, at 5.00 pm, Facing North, an ambitious community project takes the character, people, history and landscapes of the Cradle Coast and turns them into music. Under the tutelage of exceptional Tasmanian composer songwriter Dean Stevenson, over 200 local musicians bring their skills to the musical narrative, starting in the Burnie Regional Art Gallery, through the venue, and culminating in a performance in the Town Hall.
On Friday 17 March, 7.30 pm, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra perform an Ode to Nellie Melba; along with stunning Australian soprano Lorina Gore, in the Town Hall. The diva on the hundred dollar note comes to life in this tribute concert. Nellie Melba captured the hearts of the nation and Lorina Gore as Nellie Melba will capture yours too.
MADE (Mature Aged Dance Experience), in collaboration with Graeme Murphy and Janet Vernon, brings to the stage an impeccably produced dance theatre work that draws together spoken word, song, recorded soundscape, installation, costume and animation. The Frock will be performed in the Theatre on Tuesday, 21 March, 7.30 pm. Warning: Mature themes and strong adult language.
Fronted by the charismatic vocals of chanteuse Belle du Berry, critically acclaimed Paris Combo have established themselves as one of the most piquant, intriguing groups on the international music scene.
This French indie band is a favourite with crowds not only in France and Europe but also in Australia and the USA where they have chalked up over twenty tours. For the first time, they bring their fun-loving sound and their new album to Burnie Town Hall on Wednesday, 22 March, 7.30 pm.
The Burnie Regional Art Gallery is exhibiting the Burnie Print Prize a major national art award that celebrates the immeasurable craftsmanship of printmaking; Saturday 18 March until Sunday 7 May.
