New seating installed in the theatre

Wednesday, 25 January 2012

The Arts Theatre in the Burnie Arts & Function Centre has just been installed with new carpet and seating.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “The upgrade of the theatre seating is terrific news for the community.

“Over the last couple of years with the implementation of a subscription season we are seeing more of the community supporting the arts.”

During 2010/11 over 39,013 people attended the Burnie Arts & Function Centre to support performances and other cultural activities in Burnie.

“Anyone who has recently watched a show in the theatre would have noticed that the seating was looking tired and was not particularly very comfortable,” Ald. French said.

Burnie City Council applied for funding assistance from the Australian Government and was successful with their application. Council received an $85,000 grant under the Australian Government’s Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP) Round 3.
