The Burnie Arts & Function Centre is proud to present Kelly, an award winning drama about Australia’s most famous bushranger Ned Kelly and his brother Dan

Based on fact, fable and legend, Kelly is presented by the Queensland Theatre Company and will be performed at the Burnie Arts and Function Centre on Thursday 7 May at 8pm.

Written by Matthew Ryan, who also wrote Boy Girl Wall, Kelly features an outstanding cast including Steven Rooke, Kevin Spink and Anthony Standish.

Burnie Arts & Function Centre Director Geoff Dobson said “This brilliant piece of Australian theatre is not to be missed. Kelly was awarded Best Mainstage Production at the Matilda Awards for Theatre in Brisbane in 2012."

Kelly is an intriguing drama which is centered on Ned Kelly and his volatile relationship with his brother Dan.”

As part of this production, the Burnie Arts & Function Centre will be hosting a school workshop (suitable for years 10-12) and a professional development workshop suitable for drama teachers, theatre practitioners and arts educators. These workshops will be facilitated by actors Steven Rooke and Kevin Spink and will be held on Wednesday 6 May. Bookings are essential, at a cost of $10 per participant.

Burnie Mayor Anita Dow said “The production itself will be fantastic, but what makes this even more special is the opportunities that these workshops will provide for students and teachers.”

This production is suitable for secondary and college students, with links to the Australian Curriculum in English, History and Drama. Student group bookings are available.

To promote this great production the Burnie Arts & Function Centre is also holding a Beard Competition. Inspired by the actor’s real beards, if you take a photo of your beard, take it into the Arts & Function Centre you will be in the running to win a double pass to Kelly.

Kelly s recommended for mature audiences (15 years and over) as it has strong coarse language, sexual references and simulated violence.
