International artist Marion Martin performs for Seniors Week in Burnie

Thursday, 20 September 2012

Marion Martin, an international star is set to take to the stage at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre on Tuesday 2 October 2012, as part of the Seniors Week celebrations.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “What a treat to have such a name come to Burnie and put on a concert specifically for Seniors Week. The cost has been kept low, so that many can come along and enjoy music from World War II.”

Glasgow born and educated Marion Martin first trod the boards at the Empire Theatre Glasgow when she was just four years old. From that early age she developed her singing and dancing talent, performing with leading entertainers in the concert halls of Scotland and England. Today she is acclaimed as one of the most dynamic and exciting singers Scotland has ever produced.

Marion Martin’s concert ‘Hips, Harmony and Hitler’ is a stirring spectacle driven by unforgettable songs and glamour, together with colourful costuming and the unique talents and distinctive personalities of Gracie Fields, Marlene Dietrich and Carmen Miranda, all brought to life onstage by Marion Martin in a brilliant performance.

Director of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre Greg Leong said, “Hips, Harmony and Hitler pays homage to a bleak time in our history and reminds us about the vital role three extraordinary women played in uplifting public morale during the darkest days of World War II.”

Set in a London theatre during the Blitz, the audience will experience the excitement of being all in it together as they sing along, have a laugh and perhaps even shed a tear, reliving those momentous days when ordinary people came together as one to save their way of life.
