From London’s West End to Burnie - The glorious melodies of the ‘30s & ‘40s

Tuesday, 04 March 2014

Former lead performer on London’s West End, Claire Dawson is set to wow audiences with the show Blitz! A Sentimental Journey on Thursday 6 March at 8pm at the Burnie Arts & Function Centre.

In this hilarious and heart-warming musical, follow singer Jo Arnold’s ascent from working class Liverpool to the glamour and excitement of West End stardom. We see her flung headlong into the terror of the London Blitz and the heartache of potentially losing the love she has fought for all along.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “Filled with the glorious melodies of the ‘30s and ‘40s, this show evokes many emotions. Claire performed at the launch late last year and had us all in the palm of her hand. She is witty and funny, but it’s her voice that will blow you away.”

Blitz! A Sentimental Journey is an emotional story with the theme that when your whole world is exploding around you, all you can do is keep calm and carry on singing.
The performance features the multi-talented Claire Dawson who was a lead performer on London’s West End stages before moving to Tasmania.

Written by Claire Dawson and Rod Anderson, directed by Rod Anderson and supported by Tasmania Performs, this show has it all. Expect fabulous music, many laughs and be touched by a love worth fighting for.

Burnie Arts & Function Centre Director, Geoff Dobson said, “Claire Dawson is an outstanding performer. We are so lucky that she has now chosen Tasmania as her home. In seconds you can see why she has had such a successful career in the West End.”
