Free dance performances in Burnie gallery

Wednesday, 29 August 2012

Visual arts meets dance.

Tasdance will be performing a free piece titled Somewhere Else inside the Burnie Regional Art Gallery on Wednesday 5 September at 6pm and Thursday 6 September at 11:30am and 12:30pm.

Deputy Mayor Sandra French said, “Somewhere Else involves seven dancers from Tasdance performing a fluid interpretation and response to exhibitions within the gallery space.

“This performance is part of the popular Arts for the Community Program presented by the Burnie Regional Art Gallery. This program has been developed to increase arts and cultural development in the Burnie region.”

Tasdance has engaged exciting young dancer and choreographer Marnie Palomares to create a work in response to the Burnie Regional Art Gallery space and current exhibition.

Director of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre and Burnie Regional Art Gallery Greg Leong said, “Somewhere Else will be in response to our current exhibition, SOUVENIRS - an exhibition of large scale drawings by Lindsay Broughton, which explores the instruments of physical and mental torture used in the convict system of 19th century.

“This performance is about observation, installation and display. It’s a creative and physical response to art, audience and architecture. The performers invite the audience on a journey to explore a site where they playfully share through shifting perspectives.”

The three performances are free events and bookings are not required. For further information please visit www.burniearts.net or phone 64305 875.
