Director of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre scores Churchill Fellowship

Tuesday, 09 July 2013

The Burnie Arts & Function Centre will soon be represented around the world.

Director of the Burnie Arts & Function Centre Geoff Dobson has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship.

Acting Mayor Sandra French said, “Geoff has been selected after a grueling application process as a successful Churchill Fellowship recipient. To receive a Churchill Fellowship is a very prestigious honour. Geoff is only one of five from Tasmania chosen for 2013.

“I am extremely excited and proud of Geoff’s achievement. Any young person wishing to take on such a project speaks so much of the person himself. I applaud such a person wholeheartedly. Geoff will be a wonderful ambassador for Burnie and a credit to the Churchill Fellowship Foundation.”

Mr Dobson will travel to the United Kingdom and United States of America. He will visit a range of multi-arts centres to research and experience innovative programs that successfully engage their communities with the visual and performing arts.

“The centres I hope to visit place an emphasis on public programs and promote participation in the arts. I am very interested to see what other cultural institutions are doing to engage with the young people in the community. I am excited to develop new audiences in Burnie and this experience is going to be invaluable. I am very privileged,” Mr Dobson said.
