Direct from the USA – The Glenn Miller Orchestra

Monday, 26 May 2014

For the first time ever, The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform at the Burnie Arts and Function Centre on Thursday 5 June at 7.30pm.

This concert will feature 26 musicians, singers, and dancers on stage, performing the unforgettable music of the 1940s, from the Golden Era of Swing.

Deputy Mayor, Sandra French stated, “The Glenn Miller Orchestra is guaranteed to wow audiences. Just as it was in the day of Glenn Miller himself, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is still the most sought after big band in the world.”

The Glenn Miller Orchestra, featuring America’s finest musicians and singers, together with The Moonlight Serenade Singers and The Broadway Swing Dancers, bring back all those sentimental memories of the 1940s – the great ‘Big Band’ hits, the original Glenn Miller arrangements, the music of The Andrews Sisters, the Frank Sinatra Songbook, the romantic World War II melodies made famous by Vera Lynn…We’ll Meet Again, The White Cliffs Of Dover, and many more…

A special added feature will be music from the library of The Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band performed by the Orchestra, including the original arrangement of The St Louis Blues March.

Even after 77 years, Glenn Miller’s musical arrangements are still heard around the world – timeless icons of American culture such as Chattanooga Choo Choo, In the Mood, Tuxedo Junction, A String of Pearls, Moonlight Serenade, Little Brown Jug, Pennsylvania 6-5000 – music which captivated millions of people worldwide, now all brought together on stage in what promises to be a night to remember.

Burnie Arts & Function Centre Performing Arts Coordinator Sarah Reynolds said, “This really going to be spectacular concert. It will be the type of show you will just want to jump up and dance in the aisles. Join us on a sentimental journey down memory lane!”
